A few days after the Biden administration issued a new round of economic sanctions on individuals allegedly tied to election fraud in Venezuela, various news outlets reported this morning that several Americans had been arrested by the Venezuelan regime, including a former U.S. Navy SEAL from California and a few other foreign nationals. More on the alleged arrests in one moment because I first want to clear up what I mean by suspected election fraud in Venezuela. The entire system is a fraud, and so is the U.S. strategy.

When I say “allegedly tied to election fraud,” keep in mind that free and fair elections are not possible in Venezuela. It is a totalitarian regime and a police state backed by Russia, and it will continue to be supported by Russia. Elections are impossible in Venezuela unless you are part of the system. The same goes for Cuba and Nicaragua. Guess what all three have in common, besides being terrible places for Americans to visit” Russia, Russia, Russia—more on this in a future post.
